Pediatric psychiatry
About us
Safeguarding the emotional and psychological well-being of your child, from infancy to young adulthood, is a tremendous responsibility. Children and adolescents face numerous obstacles as they do their best to navigate these sometimes awkward and challenging stages of development.
At times, it can be confusing for parents to recognize the difference between normal moodiness and genuine difficulty. If you feel your child may be experiencing mental or emotional challenges, it can be useful to speak with a pediatric psychiatrist. The skilled mental health professionals at the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry at Cohen Children’s provide diagnostic and therapeutic services for children, adolescents and young adults whose problems range from mild behavioral difficulties to severe psychiatric illness.
Some of the more common disorders we treat include:
- Anxiety disorders
- Disruptive behavior disorders
- Obsessive-compulsive disorder
- Mood disorders
- Eating disorders
- Childhood trauma
- Separation anxiety (issues resulting from the impact of separation and divorce)
Through the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry, a variety of special programs and workshops are available to provide guidance to parents when they have questions about their child’s development. Just knowing that other parents are going through similar situations can help ease anxiety. Our nationally recognized Eating Disorder Program has been designated as a Child and Adolescent Center by the State of New York, in collaboration with the programs at Columbia University Medical Center and New York Presbyterian Hospital in White Plains.
If your son or daughter is experiencing a psychiatric condition, it presents a challenge for the entire family. Our team understands the complexity of these family dynamics and will work with you and your child to provide the best possible outcome. Special programs and workshops are available to provide guidance to parents when they have questions about their child’s development.
